The team behind Metaspectral began their startup journey as the creators of PixelDrive, a cloud storage platform that compressed and optimized any uploaded photo. PixelDrive brought all the advances in Machine Learning in the past decade to media compression, transmission and storage. The cloud-native approach to media compression gained much attention in the press, and paved way for Compression.ai.

2019COMPRESSION.AI

Compression.ai’s purpose was to open up the backend of PixelDrive to every developer in the world through an API and managed services. After receiving the title of “real-life Pied Piper” by NVIDIA, Metaspectral was approached by Defense and Space industries searching for efficient compression solutions for multispectral and hyperspectral data, and the foundations of Metaspectral were laid.

Metaspectral builds on years of in-house research in spectral data compression capability, as well as numerous work by organizations such as the MPEG consortium and the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS).
